The use of social media in the Netherlands is increasing significantly. This is evident from the fact that more and more members of the Dutch population want to share something about their interests and personality. Nowadays, around 10 million people in the Netherlands use these social networks; you might not expect it, but Hyves is still the most popular, with a share of 50% of social network users. Following that, 44% of social media users use the increasingly well-known Facebook. Tweeting has also become an indispensable part of modern society; Twitter currently accounts for 17% of social network users. Incidentally, the Netherlands is still only a small user (68%) when compared to the European average (73%).
The southern and eastern parts of Europe, in particular, have significantly higher usage of social networks. Furthermore, the Netherlands stands out in the use of LinkedIn (20%) compared to the European average of (11%).
Twitter the little brother
It was recently revealed that Twitter is the little brother among social networks. Specifically, 81% of the Dutch population is familiar with Twitter, but usage of this little brother stands at 17%. A positive point is that 14% do plan to start using Twitter in the near future.
Following brands
Following brands is also very popular among Dutch users of social networks. In fact, 30% of social media users follow at least one brand.
