You've probably already noticed. Google has received a new layout. Not only the homepage, but also the layout of the search results has changed. But what is the purpose of these changes? What's in it for you as a user? This change is actually just the beginning of the many changes yet to come. Google wants to create a consistent online experience for all its products. The new Google layout can be summarized in the following words: purposeful, smooth, power, and simplicity.
Goal Oriented
They want to eliminate all unnecessary components from each product. The goal of this is to ensure you are not distracted by things you do not need. This allows you to focus better on what you are doing and increases user-friendliness.
Flexible
Nowadays, you can use Google on many different devices. Some simply on their desktop, others on their smartphone, iPad, laptop, or even television. Everyone also has different monitors with different resolutions. Developments are intended to ensure that you can easily switch to other devices with different resolutions, without a changing visual experience.
Power & simplicity
The philosophy behind these developments is to combine power with simplicity. The layout must be simple and clear, without distractions. They are not implementing all the developments at once, but are doing so step by step. This gives users time to get used to them and prevents you from being overwhelmed with new things.
What do you think of these developments? And do you see the point of them?
