Kudos to the Emergency Response Officer

Imagine this happening to you: a colleague falls down the stairs right in front of you and is knocked unconscious by the hard impact of their head on the marble floor. You are the only other person left in the building, and you truly have no idea how to provide the proper assistance until help arrives. As you wait anxiously, you ask yourself why you didn't take a First Aid and Emergency Response course.

Fortunately, there are a number of heroes in every office who do know how to act in an emergency situation. These are the Company Emergency Responders (BHV'ers). We would like to introduce you to our BHV heroes on the Day of the BHV.

Emergency Response Officers Hermen and Jeffrey provide 'company emergency assistance' to a fallen colleague.

Why should you become an Emergency Response Officer?

Not everyone is eager to become an Emergency Response Officer, but why did Hermen and Jeffrey choose to take on this role? “It is useful to have an Emergency Response certificate, and I really want to be able to help people. Now I can do that with certainty when it comes to someone’s safety,” confirms Hermen. Jeffrey agrees: “I was asked, and actually, it is quite handy.”

In addition to your work situation, the first aid skills you learn during a BHV course are also useful in your private life. You don't become a BHV officer just for yourself. You do it primarily for the safety of others.

Emergency Response Day is primarily for non-emergency responders!

What are the duties of an Emergency Response Officer?

As a Company Emergency Responder (BHV'er), you are required to provide assistance if an incident occurs in the workplace. You are responsible for:

  • Providing first aid in case of accidents;
  • Limiting and fighting fires and limiting the consequences after accidents;
  • Alerting and evacuating all employees and other persons in the company or establishment in emergency situations.

A BHV'er is trained to perform CPR and apply bandages, among other things, and considers it their duty to bring employees and customers to safety in the event of an emergency.

Emergency Response deserves recognition and is necessary.

Every company is required by the Working Conditions Act to provide adequate emergency response services. To raise awareness, appreciation, and support for this, the Day of Emergency Response is being recognized nationwide for the eighth consecutive year.

However, it appears that fewer and fewer well-trained emergency response officers can be found in the workplace. According to research turns out that a first aid responder is not always present at more than half of companies, and that one in ten companies does not have a first aid responder at all (anymore). First aid responders are required to attend a refresher course at least once a year, but it appears there is increasingly less budget for this. In addition, replacements are not arranged in time at many companies.

With us, there is no lack of safety.

On the other hand, we can count ourselves lucky to have a colleague who, a while ago, spontaneously and voluntarily expressed his desire to take an Emergency Response (BHV) course. Fortunately for Best4u Internet Marketing, prospective BHV officer Twan is already ready to participate in the upcoming BHV course. He is already taking a First Aid course of his own accord soon, and starting next year, after completing a BHV course, Twan will also be able to join our BHV heroes.

Kudos to Emergency Response Officer 1

Emergency Response Team members Hermen and Jeffrey, alongside future Emergency Response hero Twan.

Why is Twan so willing to become a First Aid Responder with us? “Because I want to be able to do something the moment someone gets hit by a car or needs help. I think what I learn on such a course is useful, and I enjoy helping people. I find that important.” Well, Twan, it’s great that we can soon count on your rescue skills too, should it ever be needed in the workplace.

Finally, Jeffrey adds that emergency situations have actually never occurred at the office. “As far as I know, at Best4u it has never gone further than someone having had too much to drink or cutting their finger.” In short, safety seems to be well taken care of here. Nevertheless, we are very happy that the Emergency Response Team members are ready to assist us.

Thanks guys! And let's just hope it mostly has to stay limited to the useful training sessions, without the practical experience of incidents at the office ;).
