Facebook for your business?

Many companies now realize that social media can be of added value to their business. They can maintain contact with customers, spread news and brand awareness, and set up promotions. Facebook continues to grow in our country, which is why companies are creating their own fan pages. However, there are also companies that miss the mark with social media.

The first misconception is the term social media. Nowadays, it is no longer media, but a new social infrastructure. Not media, but communication; interactive. Not just telling how or what, but communicating about it. You can compare the internet to a highway. But companies use it primarily to advertise, not to drive on.

People like to know what other people are doing. People want to know what others think, what they support, what they find interesting, where they buy milk or a car. Social media creates opportunities for this. And so do you, with your business.

Facebook is not a copy of a random blog

Simply posting information that can also be found on other websites is not interesting to Facebook. Facebook is all about interaction, in this case, interaction with your (potential) customers. Interaction in the form of 'likes' and comments. When your company is interesting to a person (calculated by Facebook), you appear in their updates. And 'interesting' is calculated based on likes, comments, how often that person has visited the page... A blog wants comments; you want interaction.

Facebook is not a billboard

Shouting as loud as possible about what you have to offer is not interesting. At best, it causes irritation and disinterest among your target audience, which is something you want to avoid. A Facebook page exists to communicate with your (potential) customers. Ensure that your visitors find information on your Facebook page that is interesting to them. People want to talk, but no one wants to listen. Make sure you are the exception to the rule.

Facebook does cost something

It costs nothing to set up a Facebook page; there is a kernel of truth in that. However, it does take time to maintain your Facebook page. A Facebook page must be regularly and consistently updated with information. Facebook takes time.

Facebook is different from Twitter

Facebook and Twitter deserve their own updates. When you link both channels, you run the risk of posting far too many messages on both, making it uninteresting for a user. Additionally, the messages lose their essence. So never, ever link Facebook to Twitter.

Facebook is not temporary

Give users a good reason to keep visiting and 'liking' your page. Ensure that users can regularly read new content. A Facebook page is not temporary, but permanent.

We are currently working on setting up a Facebook page for Best4u Internet Marketing BV. This is still very much in its infancy. What would you like to see on this page? Facebook page?
