When you want to advertise on the internet, you quickly turn to Google AdWords due to Google's enormous reach. And when you are working with motion graphics, you are likely to use Adobe's Creative Cloud package. But what if you want to use this package to create a beautiful HTML5 advertising banner for AdWords? Then you use the program Edge Animate.
Why Edge Animate?
Edge Animate is a relatively new program from Adobe specifically aimed at creating HTML5 animations. These animations can look very attractive and will stand out well as an advertising banner. Edge Animate is a very user-friendly program that is very easy to pick up if you already have a little experience with one of Adobe's other programs.
Getting the banners working in Google AdWords
When you have created a banner in Edge Animate, it will not be immediately ready to be placed in Google AdWords. This is because a number of requirements must be met. I will discuss a few of the more important requirements in this article and show you how to comply with them.
First of all, the banners must have a specific size; these sizes can be found on the information page from Google. If this is not complied with, Google AdWords will not accept the banner.
All files must also be named without special characters, such as spaces. The best thing to do is to write every filename in lowercase and use hyphens instead of spaces.
You are not allowed to call external files unless they are hosted on Google's servers. Therefore, you will need to ensure that Edge Animate does not use files from the Adobe servers. You do this by going to 'File > Publish Settings' and unchecking 'Host runtime files on Adobe CDN'. Furthermore, you will only be able to use fonts that are either on Google Fonts or are used by default by web browsers.
Once you have finished the banner in Edge Animate, you will need to ensure that Google can see what size it is and that it is indeed an advertising banner. You do this by adding a piece of HTML code to the exported file. Place this code in the tag of this file:
<script type="text/javascript" src="https://tpc.googlesyndication.com/pagead/gadgets/html5/api/exitapi.js"> </script> <meta name="ad.size" content="width=160,height=600">
The only thing left to do now is to put all exported files into a .zip file and then upload this file to Google Adwords.
I hope this article has helped you on your way to making your Edge Animate ad banner AdWords-ready.
