Usability is an important part of your website or webshop. A lot of attention is usually paid to the design, text, and photography.
But the usability of a website is at least just as important. But what exactly does this mean?
What is usability?
In short, this means user-friendliness. However, this sounds easier than it is.
So when is something user-friendly? It is actually very simple. Compare it to buying a new product with a very extensive manual. If you are constantly searching through the manual to find out how something works, that is not exactly user-friendly. A website visitor does not have this manual. This means that everything must be clear to the visitor without any prior knowledge. This is the core of usability.
What should I pay attention to?
There are various factors that make a website user-friendly or not. In fact, you can go as far with this as you like.
Let me list a few points that are important to pay attention to on your website:
- Is my logo clearly visible on the website and does it link to the homepage?
- Is the contact information easy and quick to find?
- Are there no more than 8 items in my main menu?
- Will my website also display correctly on tablets and mobile phones?
- Do all links look interactive and enticing to click on?
- Do the buttons stand out enough?
- Does my website look well-organized?
- Do the most important parts of my website stand out enough?
- Are pages loading fast enough?
What else can I do?
You yourself have of course already looked at your own website way too much and know exactly how everything works.
Let others browse your website as well and see how they use it. Listen to feedback and act on it. Because if a few people don't understand how something works, chances are the rest won't understand it either. Usability isn't always something written in black and white as right or wrong. Usability is something that practice shows whether it works or not. If you can't figure it out yourself, you can always have a professional take a look. Do you also want a user-friendly website?
